Standing on the site of the future Dr. Robert H. Holster Educational Complex,  the Dayton Ave. Pre-School (School No. 17) opened its doors in September 2003. While waiting for the construction of the complex to be built, the school is operating in 35 Trailer Classroom Units (TCU).Twenty two TCUs are used as Pre-Kindergarten classrooms, three TCUs are used as Kindergarten classrooms and two TCUs house special needs Pre-Kindergarten classes. We have an average of 400 students. The remaining TCUs are used as offices, cafeteria, gymnasium and the nurse's clinic. The TCUs are actually very spacious, comfortable, beautiful, and designed to meet the needs of the program. There is a nice playground for the little ones to play outside every day.

The Dayton Ave. Pre-School is using High Scope, an early childhood curriculum which has been designed to stimulate the students to develop socially and academically according to their developmental stage. The curriculum is child directed, which means that the children are taught through meaningful experiences that are interesting to them. On a daily basis, the students have a variety of activities which include language development, fine and gross motor skills development, music, physical education, creative play and plenty of reading since our focus is literacy.

In-spite of the fact that the school is sectioned in TCUs, the staff, parents and students have become a family. Everyone knows each other and the children are very aware of what is going on in the school. Our  parents are simply fantastic.

At the Dayton Avenue Pre-School, teachers and staff are dedicated to the education of our most precious source: the little ones!
