School No. 14 possesses a true family and community atmosphere. We find ourselves in a unique position being a school comprised of solely ten sixth grades. The students are able to benefit from the intimate ambiance of a small school setting and dedicated staff.
Students and staff members form a bond that aides in promoting successes in all areas of the school setting. School No. 14 is intent on building bridges between its teachers, staff, students, parents, and the community. We are dedicated to overcoming any obstacle that might block our students' journey in the educational realm.
Our collaborating efforts ensure that all students' needs are met academically. Students are embarking on an exciting educational adventure as they take responsibility and ownership in their learning through varied student-centered activities and strategies. Field trips geared to reflect the required curriculum are attended as part of the learning experience, thus adding an authentic ingredient.
School 14's students' emotional and social needs are addressed as we provide experiences that promote emotional growth through the teaching of tolerance, acceptance, nonviolence, and compassion while instilling moral values. This is achieved through the many cultural enrichment programs that create an appreciation and understanding of our diverse society. These programs include a variety of ethnic assemblies with our students and through professional groups and motivational speakers coming into the school during Hispanic Heritage Month, African-American History Month and Career Day.
Our students have reached out to the community through their association with the Hamilton Plaza Nursing Home by befriending its residents. Our students are determined to let them know that they are not forgotten and are a vital part of our community.
There are other outreach programs in which our students are involved. One program is in association with the City of Passaic and our TIGS students. They join forces to get all of our students involved in donating food for those less fortunate in our community and neighboring communities.
We have instituted an instructional focus on reading comprehension to increase academic achievement which includes copious, diverse strategies and techniques to act as a catalyst in developing lifelong learners and promoting future successful citizens for our city, our country, and the world.
Augmenting our full school days are activities such as the Spelling Bee Club, Yearbook Club, Newsletter Club, chorus, band, safety patrol, and Chess Club. Incentives such as recognition of the Student-of-the-Month are in place to encourage the pursuit of educational excellence. Conflict Resolution, Character Education, and Random Acts of Kindness Programs encourage respect, tolerance, kindness, and acceptance of everyone.
Our Parent Team has implemented parental involvement classes, monthly meetings and workshops that reinforce the link between home and school.
Parents are a vital and dynamic influence on the academic achievement of our students. Through the newly established atmosphere, programs, and the activities taking place at School No. 14, we are guaranteeing our students an authentic springboard toward a positive interdependence among the home, school, and community.
