![]() Ronald Van Rensalier practices balancing city projects with Board of Education meetings these days. As director of Passaic's Community Development Department and member of the Board of Education, Van Rensalier finds himself engulfed in day-to-day Passaic activities. In his everyday job, he is involved in the areas of housing, zoning, planning, construction, and community affairs. Additionally, he has served the city as a director of the Passaic Police Athletic League, Passaic Boys and Girls Club, Urban Enterprise Zone; also, former president of Passaic For the Kids, Inc., and former Board of Adjustment Commissioner and co-founder of the Huntoon-Van Rensalier Underground Railroad Foundation. A compelling issue for this board member is the building of new schools. He is concerned that new schools can sometimes have a negative effect on a neighborhood and wants Passaic citizens to realize the importance of schooling and their impact on neighborhoods and a community at large. This commissioner is also concerned with safety issues relative to students both inside and outside of schools. This year, Commissioner Van Rensalier is chairing the Cafeteria Committee and serving on the Athletics, Community Relations, District Operations and School Safety Committees. Van Rensalier's conviction is "100% focus on the kids. We need to refocus the attention back on kids and what's important for students," adds this board member. His strong personality and great will to accept challenges reinforce his decision making for Passaic's children.
