Welcome to Mrs. Shoop's and Ms. Rivera's Kindergarten Class!!!

 

 

This week, we will read the books, Building BeaversBusy Beavers, and Grow Flower, Grow!.  We will continue to practice reading and writing words with the medial vowel sounds, a, e, i, o, and u, like in cat, hen, pig, fox, and bug.


   

 

  Please practice all our high frequency words with us at home.

In math, we will be working on the following:

   

  • sorting objects by color, shape and size
  • creating and extending patterns
  • recognizing the shapes:  circle, square, triangle, rectangle, trapezoid, hexagon, and rhombus
  • Counting back from 20
  • Writing the numbers to 110
  • Recognizing coins- pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and knowing the value of each coin
  • Using base ten blocks to represent numbers  
  • Estimation
  • Symmetry
  • Measurement using Balance Scales
  • Addition and Subtraction number stories
  • Graphs
  • Using a calculator
  • Counting by ones, twos, fives, and tens to 110
  • Telling Time to the hour
  • Dividing a group in half
  • Dividing a shape in half
  • Equivalent names for numbers

 

Your children can now use the website, www.everydaymathonline.com .  There are many math games and activities on this site to help strengthen the children’s math skillsThe children each have their own user name and password.


This week, we will begin a new unit on procedural writing.  We will learn to write about something we know "how to do".

 

In science, we will continue to learn about Sunshine and Shadows.

 

 

  Our caterpillars have all made cocoons.  We have learned all about the life cycle of the butterfly. 

 

 

 

In Social Studies, we will study the map of the United States.  We will find the state of New Jersey, where we live.  We will also learn the symbols of our country.

 

  

 

Our class has gym on Tuesdays and Fridays.  The children need to have black sneakers on those two days.

 

We eat lunch from 11:02a.m. to 11:34a.m.  Please send a healthy snack with your child every day.
